Want to Avoid Varicose Veins? Watch your Stress!
- Posted on: Aug 30 2017
In many ways, life has become increasingly easy. We have cellular phones to keep us in touch with everything and everyone imaginable; microwaves to heat food nearly instantly; you get the picture. All the ease that has been created by technology, though, is offset by one thing: stress. That’s right. It may seem as though the digital age, with its endless entertainment, is simplified. However, the endless need to be “on” and available creates a risk for some health concerns.
Why are we talking about this? Because stress affects blood pressure, and increased blood pressure could have an effect on vein health. The busier we are, too, due to technology, the less time we may make for eating well and exercising regularly. This, too, can ultimately increase the risk of vein disease.
Varicose veins are largely a genetic problem. However, because there is an inherent and uncontrollable risk, it pays to control those that you can. Here are a few ways to address the issue of stress.
Having access to work emails and other work-related information at all times could lead to problems with work-life balance. It’s called a 9-to-5 for a reason. Setting limits on your availability for work issues may be the best thing you ever do for your sense of wellness. If necessary, get a second phone that is used only for work, or use an app to limit access to certain websites and emails during your “off time.”
Creating Good Habits
When there is a strong desire to succeed and to contribute to the family or a business, self-care is often the first thing to go. It is important to prioritize exercise, nutrition, and total down-time to maximize efficiency and avoid stress-related health conditions.
- Exercise is a proven method of reducing stress simply due to the physical release of the tension held in the body. When the body is physically stressed by healthy exercise, there is a natural improvement in sleep, as well, which is necessary for optimal regeneration on every level.
- Taking a few hours on the weekend to prepare healthy meals and snacks ahead of time sets the tone for a nutrition-filled week. Food preparation is a great method of ending the battle of the bulge, as well as a reliance on fast-food and take-out.
